SHAY Logan may be unconcerned over the difficulties facing Rangers off the pitch, but he insists that their on-field problems are unsurprising.

He had watched enough Championship football last season to form the view that they would struggle not only to keep up with Celtic in the Ladbrokes Premiership, but that his Aberdeen side would be stronger in the race for second place.

“Maybe something is going on there that we don't see from the outside," he said. “But it’s irrelevant to us. Maybe the ones who own Rangers think they should be in a better position than they are.

“I don't know, it's not for me to say. It's good to have Rangers in the league. It makes it a stronger league and a more entertaining league.

“But I said at the start of the season that Rangers have to worry about teams like us and Hearts. They came up from the Championship and it's a totally different league; that's what I said.

“There are a lot stronger teams in the Premiership. Rangers fans love their team but they have to understand the Premiership is a whole different league. Maybe this will be the year that Rangers think, 'It is harder than we thought', and maybe go about it a different way next year.

“No disrespect to the Championship, I've never played in it, but I know from seeing games last season that Rangers were walking over teams.

“I knew, and everyone else knew, it's totally different when you face the Aberdeens and the St Johnstones away.

“St Johnstone might not be the best team in the world but it's a tough place to go and they've got a good manager who knows a style to play.”

The defender made 90 appearances for Brentford in his three seasons there and pointed to the determined approach Aberdeen have adopted under Derek McInnes, and he insists he has little interest in the Ibrox club.

"Honestly, the only time I think about or see Rangers is when I see a game they play. I don't listen to the news. I don't read anything about them. I couldn't tell you about the club history or that.

“I just don't know much about them. I've just not taken an interest. We just worry about ourselves and I'm sure Mark Warburton maybe thought it was the best choice to leave. Whether it was or not, only time will tell.

“We've got a good manager, who runs a good team, runs a tight ship and wants the best from our players.”

Logan will make his 134th appearances for the Pittodrie club at home to Ross County today and, like his team-mates, he’s upbeat about Aberdeen’s form, but insists Celtic's dominance at the top is not a cause for concern.

“It's not frustrating because they've got a very, very good team,” he said. “The manager they've brought in this year has recruited quality players like Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair; top notch footballers.

“The last two seasons when I've been here it's always been quite close towards the end of the season but they've just raised it.

“I've got five goals in the last five or six games against Ross County and they just seem to be a team that I normally take my chances against and I'd love to do that on Saturday if I get the chance.”
