MOUSSA DEMBELE is on track to sweep up several end-of-season awards in Scotland after a stunning debut season for Celtic.

The 20-year-old’s arrival from Fulham last summer, for a paltry fee of £500,000, looks set to be one of the club’s greatest business masterstrokes as speculation builds about interest from large-walleted suitors south of the border.

Since checking into Parkhead last summer the Frenchman has scored 27 goals in 41 appearances, as well as debuting for his country’s Under-21 side and continuing his form on the international stage by striking four times in four games.

The Hoops number 10 has made quite the impact – but how does his first season so far compare to Celtic’s other marksmen from the last 20 years?

Very well, in fact.

Only Scott McDonald, who joined the Bhoys in 2007, sits ahead of Dembele in the first-season scoring charts but the Australian’s 31 goals look almost certain to be eclipsed by the French sensation before the end of the campaign.

Celtic greats like Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton are some way down the list, while John Hartson’s 24-goal haul was surpassed by Dembele in style with a hat-trick against Inverness earlier this month.

The poorer standard of opposition the youngster has faced during this campaign may well be a factor to his success. But at his current rate, matching Leigh Griffiths’ 40-goal tally from last season seems more than achievable for a player fast becoming one of Europe's most sought-after strikers.
