A Skye restaurant has earned its spot on a prestigious list of the 'best in the world' following a prosperous year of award wins and accolades.

Edinbane Lodge is one of just 75 eateries in the UK to be recognised by La Liste, a global top 1000 list of best restaurants based on the compilations of thousands of publications,  guidebooks, and online reviews.

Chef patron Calum Montgomery and his family bought the formerly derelict hunting lodge in 2017 and after a complete renovation opened the restaurant in August 2018, followed by four bedrooms in 2019.

Montgomery's ten-course tasting menu is heavily influenced by the island's natural larder and the culinary heritage shared by the local community.

In an interview published by the Herald in July, he said: "What we serve at the restaurant is a true taste of Skye.

"A lot of our suppliers are friends, family, family friends, people I went to school with.

“I try to use as many ingredients that would be accessible to my ancestors on the Island.

“Things they would have been eating out of necessity because it’s what they would have been catching in fishing boats around us.”

This year alone has seen Edinbane Lodge awarded four AA Rosettes, promoted to ‘Exceptional’ in the Good Food Guide, winning the ‘Best Dining Experience’ in the Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards and named ‘Restaurant of the Year’ at the Scottish Excellence Awards.

Upon discovering that his team had secured a coveted entry on La Liste for the first time, Mr Montgomery said: "Wow, my mind is blown.

"A score of 86 places us mid-table and third highest in Scotland.

"I’m just so proud of our entire team and what we’ve achieved this year."

Other Scottish restaurants recognised by La Liste included Cail Bruich, The Glenturret Lalique, Inver and Restaurant Andrew Fairlie.
