COMBINE stunning architecture, a packed social calendar and a colourful local population and you have the perfect ingredients for great photography.

That's just a few elements of what makes Glasgow such a fantastic city when seen through the camera's lens, and with talented snappers from Mearns to Maryhill, sublime snaps of the city abound.

Here we've gathered a few of our favourite photos taken of the city from the Instagram community.

A favourite for those wielding a camera, the Necropolis has been well-captured by olga_bolga here. The final resting place for more than 50,000 people, this Victorian cemetery was described by Billy Connolly thusly: "Glasgow's a bit like Nashville, Tennessee: it doesn't care much for the living, but it really looks after the dead."

Playing with perspective is always fun, and add one of the city's Glasgow 2014 murals into the mix as exploring__places has and you're guaranteed a good image.

Sometimes even an everyday street can be transformed into something special with the sun's gloss, as weezee5 discovered.

The old boathouse - now a restaurant - at Giffnock's Rouken Glen park is snapped across the water by clairequinn_photography. Fun fact, despite being in East Renfrewshire Council's jurisdiction, the park is actually owned by Glasgow City Council. The park is signed over on a 125-year-lease.

A beautiful sunset was captured by alicemylne over Kelvindale's canals.

One of many moody shots of Glasgow from zenarcade2003 shows George Wyllie's Running Clock outside the Buchanan Bus Station.

Another Instagrammer with loads of interesting takes on Glasgow, itslour plays with reflection at Royal Exchange Square. Interesting aside, the square is known as such as the building that now houses GOMA was once the city's business exchange.

It seems like wildswimmer has developed a case of tunnel vision with this striking photo of the SECC's pedestrian walkways.

People Make Glasgow's Instagram account shared this stunning image of the interior of House For An Art Lover. Designed by the city's most famous architectural son, it wasn't built until after his death.

Another location you just can't seem to take a bad photo of, Ashton Lane is here captured in the sun, something that has sadly been in short supply this summer.
