TENNIS star Andy Murray's dog is to become a published author with a book about how to look after humans.

A book by Border terrier Maggie Mayhem, who has become a celebrity with her own Twitter account, will be released next year.

How to Look After Your Human: A Dog's Guide is about how dogs can bond with humans and will be written with the help of Murray's artist wife Kim.

Frances Lincoln Children's Books will publish the book next June priced £14.99 and it will be fully illustrated with artwork from Penguin in Peril creator Helen Hancocks.

The publisher said Maggie Mayhem's fee will be donated to an animal welfare charity.

Frances Lincoln publisher Rachel Williams, who acquired worldwide rights to the book, said: "Maggie Mayhem has been dispensing valuable life advice to her thousands of adoring fans on Twitter and we simply couldn't resist her wit and charm.

"Maggie Mayhem has trained some of the world's most stubborn humans (namely her housemate Kim Sears) and so there is no better canine to explain the complexities of human behaviour and guide us through the ownership journey."

Murray and Kim have another Border terrier called Rusty and they are regularly spotted walking the pets in their hometown of Oxshott, Surrey.

Maggie has gained more than 28,000 followers on Twitter since an account in her name was set up five years ago. Her profile picture is a painting by Kim of the pooch wearing Murray's Olympic gold medal.

Maggie has tweeted such pearls as: "Kate Middleton's dog is stealing my column inches. This has not gone unnoticed, and I'll step out without underwear tomorrow to compensate."

On Murray's birthday this year she tweeted: "Happy birthday @andy_murray thanks for cleaning up my vomit just now #lifeskills #yourewelcome."

Murray and Kim, both 28, married at his hotel Cromlix House near Dunblane in April and are expecting their first child together.

The two-time Grand Slam champion has told in the past how he keeps in touch with his dogs via Skype while travelling the world.

He will compete for the British Davis Cup team in Glasgow this weekend in their semi-final match against Australia at the Emirates Arena.
