A MOTHER left shocked by a mystery parking ticket donation has decided to carry on the random act of kindness by raising over £13,000 for an Edinburgh children's hospital.

In February, Mairi Holden discovered a stranger had left money on the windscreen of her car to help towards a parking ticket she received after rushing her four-year-old son, Oscar, to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Inspired, the 35-year-old challenged herself to raise as much as possible for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation (SKFF), the charity behind the children's hospital.

In just two months, she has raised £13,195 via a JustGiving page.

Ms Holden said: “I was so overwhelmed when I found the money, I couldn’t believe that someone had done such a lovely and kind thing. "That is what motivated me to begin raising money."

Ms Holden plans to continue fundraising, and has set herself an ambitious £1 million target.

She added: “SKFF have been amazing with Oscar, I love the work that they do which is why I decided to raise money specifically for them."

Roslyn Neely, chief executive of SKFF, said: “We are so grateful to Mairi for undertaking this amazing fundraising effort. She has done brilliantly so far and the money raised will have a huge impact on the children being treated at the RHSC."
