A MAN has appeared in court after allegedly attacking his teenage girlfriend who was found dead in her student flat the following day.

Angus Milligan, 21, is claimed to have assaulted Emily Drouet several times while she was living at Hillhead Halls studying law at Aberdeen University.

He is also alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner towards the 18-year-old on various dates last year.

Ms Drouet, who was from Glasgow, was found dead at her university’s halls of residence on March 18, the day after the last alleged assault happened.

Police investigated her death, but ruled that there were no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Milligan, of Edinburgh, appeared at Aberdeen sheriff court yesterday facing eight charges and denied the allegations.

Defence solicitor Peter Keane requested that new dates were set for the trial because Mr Milligan had found a new lawyer to deal with the case.

He said Mr Milligan had qualified for legal aid funding but had later been found for private representation which would pay for a defence counsel.

The trial will now take place in May with 21 civilian witnesses expected to give evidence over four days.

Court paperwork states that Mr Milligan has been accused of assaulting his then girlfriend by pouring beer over her, seizing her by the neck, choking her and pushing the teenager against a desk.
