Five people have been taken to hospital after a bus crashed into a block of flats in Paisley.

Police and emergency services were alerted to the scene at Hamilton Court, Calside, around 12:20pm on Wednesday.

Photos from the scene showed a single-decker McGill's bus wedged against the wall at the foot of a block of flats.

Renfrewshire & Inverclyde Police confirmed that five people were taken to hospital for treatment, with enquiries ongoing.

A number of road closures are in place including Calside Avenue, Polsons Crescent, Craw Road and Alexandra Gate. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 12.25pm to attend an incident in Calside, Paisley.

The incident marks the second time that a vehicle has crashed into the high-rise building in recent years. In August of 2022, an Audi vehicle veered off the road and crashed through the block of flats.

Two people who were in the car were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment. Police later arrested and charged the 26-year-old driver in connection with road traffic offences.
