GOLF fans travelling to Troon for the Open next week will not be affected by the conductors' strike, ScotRail has said.

Trains between Glasgow and Troon will run on an increased frequency with more carriages on Championship days, with the first trains scheduled to arrive at Troon station from 7am between Thursday July 14 and Saturday July 16.

On the final day of play, Sunday July 17, trains will arrive at Troon from 8am.

Strikes will coincide with the Open Championship on July 14, 16 and 17, meaning that around a third of ScotRail services - not including the Glasgow-Troon route - will be cancelled.

Phil Verster, managing director of the ScotRail Alliance, said: “The Open is a hugely exciting event for the people of Scotland, and we’re proud to play our part in helping fans get to the course.

“I’d ask everyone planning on travelling by train on Championship days to keep checking our website as this will include a bespoke timetable for those heading to The Open.

"Please make sure you’re aware of your travel options for both legs of your journey and, if possible, leave extra time for your journey as trains are likely to be busier than normal.”

Some trains to Glasgow from other parts of Scotland will have a reduced service and different departure times on strike days, and ongoing improvement works at Glasgow Queen Street station mean it may take longer than normal to reach Glasgow due to diversions.

As in previous years, passengers can board a Stagecoach ‘Golflink’ bus upon arrival at Troon which will take them directly to the course.

Train and bus tickets can be purchased from staffed ScotRail stations, or by calling ScotRail telesales.

ScotRail is encouraging customers to purchase bus tickets in advance to eliminate the need to queue at Troon station.
