BUDGET airline Jet2 has unveiled its largest ever package of holidays and flights from Scotland, with three brand new destinations available from next summer.

The low-cost carrier is selling more seats than ever before for its flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh next year, with total capacity for more than 1.42 million passengers.

The summer 2017 schedule will also serve 53 destinations, the largest selection of routes since the airline began operating out of Scotland six years ago.

The growth comes amid record-breaking passenger numbers at both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.

David Neill, head of planning at Jet2.com, said package holidays remained the biggest draw among their Scottish customers, with Majorca still the leading destination for Scots using Jet2.

Mr Neill said: "Majorca is still the number one destination for our Scottish customers, but the Canaries are very popular as well and we are also seeing strong demand for places like Croatia and Greece.

"We had a major expansion at Edinburgh last year, but summer 2017 will be our biggest offering in Scotland to date. We are optimistic because

"Package holidays make up the biggest share of our sales but for our city destinations we still get a lot of seat-only customers."

The firm is boosting its capacity at Edinburgh Airport by 36 per cent year-on-year, with 620,000 seats in summer 2017.

The expansion includes new routes to Girona in Spain, Naples in Italy and the return of direct services to Murcia in Spain.

At Glasgow Airport, the airline will be offering direct service to Dubrovnik in Croatia for the first time as part of a nine per cent boost in capacity, to 800,000 seats.
