Glasgow and MTV have scooped three top prizes at the prestigious Scottish Event Awards.
Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) won the Best International Event and Best Large Event awards and Event Management Grand Prix title for Glasgow's hosting of the MTV Europe Music Awards in November 2014.
GCMB faced strong competition from events including the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup 2015 and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. It shared the Best Large Event award with Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden for its Botanic Lights: Night in the Garden exhibtion.
Other winners includes the Ryder Cup 2014, Glasgow International Comedy Festival and the Scottish Wedding Show 2014.
Joe Aitken, head of major events at GCMB, said: “The Scottish Event Awards are recognised as Scotland’s event industry Oscars, so to come away with three awards against such strong competition demonstrates a resounding vote of confidence not just in GCMB but the wider teams across Glasgow City Council, the city’s events sector and EventScotland who came together to deliver a truly unforgettable MTV EMA.
“Glasgow has a terrific relationship with MTV, which has grown over the years through our hosting of MTV Crashes in 2010, the MTV EMA and, just last month, MTV Live Lockdown. These awards are testament to the strength of that partnership and the positive teamwork that goes on behind the scenes.
“The success of the MTV EMA proves that Glasgow has the infrastructure, skills and expertise to deliver major global events and put on a really fantastic show. You also can’t talk about Glasgow without mentioning our people. Their energy, friendliness and can-do attitude make this city the complete package for event organisers.”
Bob Bakish, President and CEO of MTV’s international parent company, Viacom International Media Networks, said: “The decision to bring MTV’s most prestigious international awards show, the EMA, to Glasgow was the culmination of several years of working with the city. Throughout that time we’ve found Glasgow’s dedicated team to be a fantastic partner to work with – forward thinking, creative and flexible, with a good understanding of how they can best contribute to the successful staging of events.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
