What is it?

A budget mini wireless speaker. Divoom has garnered a solid reputation for developing quality audio products at an affordable price and the latest update to their innovative travel speaker is no different.

The Voombox Travel model offers Bluetooth connectivity, reasonable sound and a few extras for under £30. It is primarily aimed at holidaymakers and backpackers, but is equally adept in small rooms.

Good points?

There is a definite sense that you are purchasing something that should cost far more than the outlay. The device feels sturdy and gives you the confidence to clip it to your rucksack and head for the hills.

The sound quality is more than adequate at its intended volume (think personal rather than party). The rechargeable battery gives upwards of five hours of listening time which is more than double its nearest price competitor.

The built-in microphone also allows you to take hands-free phone calls so you can still talk to your partner while scaling that hill face.

Bad points?

The Voombox distorts quite significantly at high volume; rather than sounding tinny it is more reminiscent of white noise on an old analogue radio.

Although the unit is splash-proof and does withstand substantial water contact it won't survive being submerged so it would be wise to limit usage around busy pool areas.

Best for ...

Those who need a compact, robust and portable music companion for their outdoor adventures that won't deplete the bank account.

Avoid if ...

You require a speaker with a bit more power and clarity for that all-night party under the stars.
