What is it?

A no-frills MP3 player that punches above its weight. Dedicated portable audio devices have taken a back seat in recent years. Smartphones, meanwhile, have become an all-encompassing gadget with varied degrees of success, particularly the non-Apple varieties. With iTunes having so many flaws, not least how it functions with music and files not purchased through its software, SanDisk is taking the humble MP3 player back to its roots. The Clip Jam puts the power back into the user's hands allowing audio files to be seamlessly transferred direct from a computer.

Good Points?

SanDisk are leaders in digital storage and have brought that expertise to their music players. The hardware is solid and playback is perfect no matter what environment you are in or what activity you are performing. The sound quality is excellent for such an inexpensive piece of kit, far better than some rivals costing more than double the price. The microSD slot allows even more storage than the 8GB of internal memory.

Bad points?

Due to the budget nature of the device there is no streaming services available and it is without Bluetooth support for wireless headphones.

Best for ...

Those seeking a functional and cheaper alternative to the more established brands. The Clip Jam is ideal for technophobes and children due to its simplicity and is relatively cheap to replace should mishap strike.

Avoid if ...

You are looking for a workout companion as the lack of wireless connectivity will frustrate those who dislike swinging wires as they hit the treadmill.
