Dirty Dug, Edinburgh's newest pop-up bar and restaurant, today brought an extra bit of bite to this year's Fringe Festival.

The new pop-up spot on Frederick Street, which has been providing hotdog style street food and cocktails with a Scottish twist to the masses throughout the August extravaganza, took a break from their normal menu to create one of the world's hottest hotdogs.

Packed with Ghost Peppers and Trinidad Scorpion chillies, Dirty Dug's devilish chefs served up hotdogs so hot that the lucky (and brave) participants who volunteered to try the eye-watering feast signed waiver forms in case of injury, or even death.

They were in for a spicy encounter; with each hotdog garnish packing a punch of over one million Scoville Units. However, armed with gloves and signature Scottish White Russian to cool them down, they were ready.

Speaking after her fiery experience, Joanna Rice from Edinburgh, said: "I love spicy food and was excited to help Dirty Dug test their hottest hotdog creation. I knew that eating Ghost Peppers can have some tough side effects like profuse sweating and stomach cramps, but I wasn't quite prepared for just how hot it was. I loved it."

On a normal day, this capital hotspot's menu has every type of taste covered and highlights include the 'Sloppy Dug', the 'Mad Dug', with lashings of haggis to entice the tourists, or even a 'Naked Dug' for the purists.

Michael Sim, creator, said: “Dirty Dug is all about having fun over the festival, with great food and quality cocktails. We wanted to create something a bit different with our hotdogs and that was what today is all about.

"Alongside our quality hotdogs, we have put a lot of creativity into our cocktail menu too. Dirty Dug's showcase drink is the ‘Scottish Russian’ with our secret ingredient of the famous Buckfast Tonic Wine. Not only is it a party starter, it has done a great job of cooling down our hotdog testers today."

Dirty Dug is now open on 24 Frederick Street, from 11am to 5pm ever day, and you can check them out on Facebook, Twitter: @dirtydug_edi or Instagram: @dirtydug_edi
