Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1351.40 per head and 242p per kg to average £1155.20 and 220.4p.

In the rough ring all classes met recent rates with a plainer show forward. Twenty beef cows sold to £1020 and 146.8p to average 121.2p, while 112 dairy cows peaked at £1080 and 126.2p to level at 97.3p. Six bulls sold to £1330 and 155.6p to average 117.7p.

The firm also had 10 dairy cattle forward at its weekly sale that sold to £1450 on three separate occasions and averaged £1307.

Wallets Marts sold 1337 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £100 for a Texel, while a pen of 30 heavyweight Blackfaces were bid to £80 per head. Top price per kg was 200p for export-weight Texels with the overall average levelling at 168.9p (+0.9p on the week).

There were also 349 cast sheep forward when ewes met a similar trade to last week with the exception of plainer types that proved harder to sell. Ewes sold to £95 for Texels, £75 for Mules and £56.50 for Blackfaces.
