Wallets Marts had a small offering of store cattle in Castle Douglas yesterday when 17 heifers sold to a top of £900 per head and 231.4p per kg to average £752 and 204p, while 20 bullocks peaked at £1000 and 236.4p to level at £848 and 214.6p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1154 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £89 per head and 195.2p per kg to average 166.1p (-0.2p on the week).

There were also 255 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £134 for Texels and £48.50 for Blackfaces.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 38 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 243p and an average of 224p (+8p), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 238p and levelled at 220p (+0.5p). Three prime bulls sold to 201p and averaged 183p.

In the rough ring 98 beef cows sold to 193p and averaged 132p (+6.7p).

There were also 1359 prime hoggs that sold to £95 and 225p to average 168p (+5p).

The 535 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £91 for Texels and averaged £76, while light ewes peaked at £75 for Cheviots and levelled at £37.

The firm also sold 15 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 233.5p and an average of 207.2p (+6.2p), while 12 prime bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 198.6p (-7p). Fifty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 227.5p and averaged 190.5p (+0.7p), while 67 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 177.5p and levelled at 145.7p (-1p).

In the rough ring 154 beef cows sold to 194.5p and averaged 124.7p (-11p), while 276 dairy cows peaked at 155.5p and levelled at 98.2p (-4.3p). Sixteen bulls sold to 138.5p and averaged 120.3p (-33.8p).

There were also 1880 prime hoggs that sold to £102.80 and 257.8p to average 162.8p (-5p).

A small show of 53 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £95.50 for Texels, while light ewes peaked at £60.50 for Cheviots.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 27 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 231.7p (-1.1p), while 5 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 206.1p (-1.2p). Eleven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 135.5p and averaged 132.5p (+1.1p).

In the rough ring 55 beef cows averaged 123.5p (-4.5p) and 84 dairy cows levelled at 90.1p (+1.1p).

The firm also sold 2253 prime hoggs to a top of £99 and 223.1p to average 169p (+1.6p).

The 360 heavy ewes forward averaged £68.77, while 234 light ewes levelled at £39.13.
