WALLETS Marts sold 40 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1110 per head and 203.7p per kg to average £820 and 184.1p, while 63 store bullocks also peaked at £1110 per head, but had a top price of 216.6p per kg to level at £923.25 and 194.5p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1467 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £92 per head and 178.7p per kg to average 159.3p (+7.9p on the week).
There were also 545 cast sheep forward when all classes were also fully £2 dearer on the week, with ewes selling to £109.50 for Texels and £57.50 for Blackfaces.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 54 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 211.6p (+2.6p), while 29 prime bullocks peaked at 242p and levelled at 205.4p (-0.6p). Three prime bulls averaged 176p.
In the rough ring 87 beef cows sold to 165p and averaged 114.7p (-2.3p).
There were also 1520 prime lambs that sold to £90 and 210p to average 170p (+10p).
The 784 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £95 for Suffolks and average £69, while light ewes peaked at £88 for Cheviots and levelled at £38.
The firm also sold 26 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 212.5p and an average of 182p (-14p), while 24 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 219.5p and levelled at 193.7p (-0.6p). Seven prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 176.5p and averaged 153.8p. Fifty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 231.5p and averaged 184.2p (-7.9p), while 38 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 136.8p (-15.3p).
In the rough ring 134 beef cows sold to 191.5p and averaged 111.6p (-1p), while 180 dairy cows peaked at 134p and levelled at 78.7p (-2.9p). Ten bulls sold to 133.5p and averaged 114.5p (-8.7p).
The 1895 prime lambs sold to £109.80 and 244p to average 163.2p (+2.5p).
A nice show of 248 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £80 for Leicesters and average £55.50, while light ewes peaked at £63.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £46.12.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 255p and an average of 232.1p (+3.2p), while 6 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 222p and levelled at 206.2p (-2.1p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 137.5p and averaged 135.2p (+1.8p).
In the rough ring 49 beef cows averaged 112p (-4.5p) and 40 dairy cows levelled at 84p (-2.9p).
There were also 1708 prime lambs that sold to £105 and 207.1p to average 168.7p (+5.8p).
The 700 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £134.50 for a Texel and £50.50 for Blackfaces.
