There were also 1457 store lambs. Averages for selected breeds: Texels £53.42, Suffolks £60.25, Mules £41.54, Blackfaces £39.87.

Wallets Marts had 253 store cattle forward in Castle Douglas yesterday when heifers sold to £1125 per head and 220.9p per kg to average £858 and 195p (-5.2p on the fortnight), while bullocks, that included a large proportion of dairy-bred types, peaked at £1210 and 226.2p, to level at £928 and 197p (-11.2p).

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 40 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 237p and an average of 214.1p (-6.7p on the week), while 25 prime bullocks peaked at 236p and levelled at 217p (-4p).

In the rough ring 51 beef cows sold to 171p and averaged 130.3p (-4.5p).

There were also 2431 prime lambs that sold to £95 per head and 202.4p per kg to average 167p (-14.5p).

The 734 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £95 for a Suffolk and average £60, while light ewes peaked at £63 for Cheviots and levelled at £51.

The firm also sold 18 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 233.5p and an average of 210p (+15.9p), while 13 prime bullocks peaked at 218.5p and levelled at 193.8p (-19.4p). Fifty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228.5p and averaged 191.1p (-1.9p), while 58 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 167.5p and levelled at 137.9p (-10.4p).

In the rough ring 125 beef cows sold to 213.5p and averaged 127.2p (+4p), while 346 dairy cows peaked at 140.5p and levelled at 86.1p (-0.2p). Five bulls sold to 134.5p and averaged 113.1p (-2.6p).

There were also 3322 prime lambs that sold to £109.80 and 243.7p to average 172.1p (+10.7p).

The 180 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £85.50 for Texels and average £63.95, while light ewes peaked at £47.50 for Swaledales and levelled at £38.98.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 18 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 237.1p (+2p), while 10 prime, B&W bullocks peaked at 137.5p and levelled at 131.4p (-5p).

In the rough ring 59 beef cows averaged 117.5p (-3.5p) and 43 dairy cows levelled at 88.6p (-1.4p). Five bulls averaged 105p.

There were also 2162 prime lambs that sold to £95 and 209.3p to average 171.2p (-2p).

The 711 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £142.50 for a Texel and £76.50 for Blackfaces.
