GRAHAM’S The Family Dairy is expanding its range further by launching an organic whole milk with cream on top, reminiscent of doorstep deliveries, and has already struck a UK-wide deal to sell it in 90 Waitrose stores.

The dairy company, based at Bridge of Allan in Stirlingshire, is now targeting deals to supply this new, non-homogenised product to other UK supermarket groups.

The family business declined to disclose the value of the supply deal with the upmarket Waitrose but signalled that it viewed the launch of the organic whole milk with cream as a major product development.

Graham’s said the new product would be “packaged in a high-quality, recyclable clear plastic bottle, similar to the brand’s Gold Top milk range”.

It added: “The new organic whole milk has the same creamy top appeal, reminiscent of traditional milk float deliveries, but with the added bonus of more essential fatty acid Omega 3, as is found in organic dairy.

“The milk’s creamy top means it is unlike any other organic whole milk currently on the market. To ensure the cream rises to the top, Graham’s organic whole milk is non-homogenised, meaning that it does not go through the process which gives other milk products a more consistent texture.”

The milk will be sold in one-litre bottles.

Graham’s employs more than 600 people, and has been diversifying its product range significantly in recent times by driving into the spreadable butter market and launching protein-rich soft cheese quark.

It now produces 10 different types of milk, as well as butter, ice-cream, cheese, yoghurt, cream, soured cream, cottage cheese, and quark

Graham’s made pre-tax profits of £1.6 million on sales of £86.5m in the year to March 2015, the latest period for which accounts are available.

It revealed plans in June to build a major export business. At the time, managing director Robert Graham highlighted opportunities to sell butter to China, Japan, and South Korea and win sales in the Middle East. He revealed the family company was poised to achieve exports of £2m in its current financial year to March 2017, from a “standing start”.

Referring to the company’s latest product launch, Mr Graham said: “This milk is a delicious alternative to other milk on the market, especially for those who are looking for an option that provides all the goodness of organic dairy, with the added bonus of cream on the top. With a nod to traditional milk deliveries, it’s packaged in a PET [plastic] bottle that both feels good to pour and looks great on the breakfast table.”

He added: “Some customers are telling us that they want a product close to natural whole milk, for the taste, for their families and for all the health benefits that organic produce brings. We have been dairy farming since 1939 and, while our business remains steeped in family values, we are always looking to innovate. It is wonderful to be able to respond to this demand with a product that goes back to basics, while also being unlike anything else available.”
