Market round-up
Wallets Marts sold 93 store heifers at their fortnightly sale in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1090 per head and 226p per kg to average £868 and 193.5p, while 68 store bullocks peaked at £1145 and 239.1p to level at £925 and 211.8p.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 46 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 239p and an average of 208.5p (-3.6p on the week), while 21 prime bullocks peaked at 236p and levelled at 202p (+1.4p).
In the rough ring 58 beef cows averaged 119.3p (-3.6p).
There were also 1368 prime hoggs that sold to a top of £100 per head and 207p per kg to average £76 and 176.5p (-0.5p).
The 452 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £100 for a Suffolk and average £68.91, while light ewes peaked at £75 for Cheviots and levelled at £53.15.
The firm also sold 15 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 212.5p and an average of 193.9p (+17.5p), while 15 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 210.5p and levelled at 194.9p (+7.6p). Three prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 150.5p and averaged 140.5p (-2.5p). Forty-four prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 211.5p and averaged 180.8p (+6.2p), while 32 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 164.4p and levelled at 126.8p (-6.9p).
In the rough ring 119 beef cows averaged 120.1p (+0.6p) and 256 dairy cows levelled at 86.9p (-0.3p). Five bulls averaged 121.5p (-7.2p).
The firm also sold 2149 prime hoggs to a top of £111.50 and 242.4p to average 181.2p (+1.6p).
A small show of 100 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £88 for Texels and average £60.14, while light ewes peaked at £54 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £42.47.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1397 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £94 and 208.9p to average 177.1p (+0.6p).
The 545 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £112 for Texels and £57.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £54.68.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 13 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 236.8p (+2.1p), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 222p and levelled at 214p (+5.2p). Ten prime B&W bullocks sold to 144.5p and averaged 134.8p (+2.1p).
In the rough ring 29 beef cows averaged 112.5p (+0.5p) and 43 dairy cows levelled at 79.8p (-3p).
The firm also sold 1472 prime hoggs to a top of £105.50 and 228.4p to average 180.1p (-0.4p).
The 536 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £121 for a Texel and £62 for Blackfaces to average £57.26 overall.
