THE DUNDEE Institute of Architects and Scottish Enterprise has announced that the London-based architects Studioshaw's Interactive Hub proposal is the winner of an ideas competition for a new facility for children and young people at the Digital Media Park in Seabraes Yards.

The DIA invited proposals for a new public space or building within the city’s Seabraes Yards regeneration zone. The former railway depot, located a short distance from Richard Murphy’s Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre and Kengo Kuma’s under-construction V&A Dundee, is being developed for the creative industries sector.

The Seabraes Yards Sketch Design competition was one of 400 or so events taking place across Scotland as part of the RIAS’s 2016 Festival of Architecture, part of the Scottish Government’s 2016 Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design celebrations.

Studioshaw Director Mark Shaw said: "We are really delighted to have won the ideas competition for this key site, part of a billion pound transformation of the waterfront area of Dundee."

A PROJECT bringing together the arts and divinity will see young composers’ work performed with Sir James MacMillan for the first time this weekend, February 19.

The initiative – run by the University of St Andrews – matched doctoral students in theology with upcoming composers, and asked them to create a piece of music based on passages from the Old Testament.

It is the inaugural project of TheoArtistry, a new dimension of the work of ITIA (the Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts) based in the University’s School of Divinity.

The aim of the project is to "transform scholarly and public perception of the role and importance of the arts in theology and church practice as well as society as a whole."

TheoArtistry founder Dr George Corbett said: “In the past the most exciting new art and music has often come about in response to or in relation to theology. And that’s what we’re really bringing to the fore here at St Andrews.”

Sir James MacMillan holds a part-time professorship in ITIA. The compositions will be performed live for the first time by St Salvator’s Chapel Choir at the TheoArtistry Composers’ Workshop at St Leonard’s Chapel on Sunday February 19 between 2-6pm.

In 1985 Catlin released her debut book Natural Light with an accompanying exhibition at the Edinburgh International Book Festival that subsequently toured Scotland.

Thirty years on, Ms Catlin has revisited the theme, featuring those seen in the original book such as Alasdair Gray, Jim Kelman and Liz Lochhead, but also casting light on another generation of literary figures including Ali Smith, A L Kennedy and Alan Warner.
